Leather has been around for eons, it is the go to material from clothing choices since the prehistoric times.

People have always wrapped themselves in animal skins to keep them warm and to absorb power that they believed the animals hide inside them.

Today however, as magical as the leather is, we know is only a practical material that can be turned into a durable, stylish piece of clothing.

Most leather jackets are from different numbers of animal skins.

Lamb skins mainly, cow skins or sheep skins. But let’s start explaining the process in steps.

The Tannery

First of all the animal skins are sorted in to sizes by weight and thickness, then any remaining proteins on and in the skins are removed to prevent any bacteria from growing.

To ensure the skins are completely clear they are soaked in revolving drums containing bacterecides and detergents.

On average this process of tanning can have a longer processing due to the characteristic of every single animal, for example the lambskin take up to 12 hours of soaking, cow skins several weeks.

And once the skins dry will pass under a blade that slices them in to their requisite thickness.

The leather jacket manufacturing process

At the leather factories, highly skilled artisans work hard to make sure that the leather material turns in to a leather jacket and designers are employed to design the leather jackets, creating patterns from which the garments are cut.

The big factories create the patterns by computerized machines, but in our atelier we produce the patterns by hand, first we design a style, his trait.

So every style have his own characteristics so the their relative patterns must respect them.

Our craftsmen made the patterns in terms of the style and the size of the style requested by the clients and once the patterns are ready we put them on the leather skins to cut all the parts which will form the jacket.

It is very important to use every single part of skins when cutting in order not to waste the leather, positioning the patterns in a clever way to make the full use of it.

Once we cut the jacket there’s the final step of the process… the sewing.

With all the parts of the jacket done we just have to assemble them, like in a puzzle.

The process of sewing is to attach one part to another by using a sewing machine and our master tailors sapiently knows all the tricks about it and also sew by hand some details that they would not be able to sew properly with the machine.
